Chance Vought Corsair JT692 crash in Ballymoney, Co. Antrim

Chance Vought Corsair JT692 came down near the town of Ballymoney, Co. Antrim on 18th January 1945 killing Pilot Sub-Lieutenant Peter Storm Ross.

On 18th January 1945, Chance Vought Corsair JT692 crashed while on a test flight. The plane came down about 3 miles east of Ballymoney, Co. Antrim, 10 miles northeast of the base at R.A.F. Mullaghmore, Co. Antrim.

The pilot, 21-year-old Sub-Lieutenant Peter Storm Ross of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve died as a result of the incident. He flew with Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm 1843 Squadron based at H.M.S. Gannet or Royal Naval Air Station Eglinton, Co. Londonderry.

Sub-Lieutenant Peter Storm Ross’ grave is in Section I, Grave 530 of Craigton Cemetery, Glasgow, Scotland. He had graduated from the University of Glasgow in his hometown in 1941, joining the Royal Navy the following year.
