Linfield v Belgian XI at Windsor Park, Belfast, Co. Antrim was an interesting spectacle of football with the visitors fielding some international players.

In 1945, the committee at Linfield Football Club decided to play a "farewell challenge" match against a Belgian XI. The game took place at 1830hrs on Monday 10th September 1945 in front of a crowd at Windsor Park, Belfast, Co. Antrim.

The Belgians fielded a strong side of men from 4th (Steenstraete) Infantry Brigade. The team included several players of international level and they gave the local side a close game.

The Blues were almost at full strength and were severely tested by the Belgians, who played skillful football.

Walsh and McKenna scored one apiece in the first half with Geens responding for the visitors leaving the game 2-1 at half time. Geens equalised in the second half to tie the match. Part of the proceeds of the Windsor Park game went to charity as did the profits from earlier games including lower league games.

At 2000hrs on 15th June 1945, A Belgian XI played against a Ballynure Summer League XI in a charity game at Harson’s Field, Belfast Road, Ballynure, Co. Antrim. Admission for adults was 1/- and schoolchildren paid 6d. After the match, all attended a Social at Church School, Ballynure, Co. Antrim.
