A Supermarine Seafire crashed at Mew Island, Donaghadee, Co. Down on 13th February 1944 killing Royal New Zealand Navy Sub-Lieutenant John Esmond Marshall.
Lockheed Hudson AM604 crash at R.A.F. Aldergrove, Co. Antrim
Grumman Hellcat FN410 piloted by Sub-Lieutenant Ronald John Corkhill came down on high ground at Knockanally, Martinstown, Co. Antrim on 31st January 1944.

10th November 1942 marked the arrival of US First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt in Northern Ireland. She carried out a whirlwind 2-day tour of Belfast and Derry.
