The Ballymena Spitfire

The Ballymena Spitfire P7835, funded by the Belfast Telegraph Spitfure Fund, flew with many RAF Squadrons until its loss over France on 24th July 1941.

The Ballymena Spitfire had the serial number P7835 ZF-S. The Mark IIa Supermarine Spitfire flew with RAF 66 Squadron, RAF 609 Squadron, RAF 118 Squadron, RAF 308 Squadron, and RAF 315 Squadron. On 24th July 1941, it went missing while providing an escort to Bristol Blenheims over France. Pilot Officer J Czachowski of RAF 315 Squadron died in the crash.

The plane was one of many fighters funded by people of Northern Ireland who contributed to the Belfast Telegraph Spitfire Fund.
