The Bangor Spitfire

The Bangor Spitfire P7842, funded by the Belfast Telegraph Spitfire Fund and people of Co. Down, crash landed in Hampshire during the Second World War.

The Bangor Spitfire had the serial number P7842. The Mark IIa Supermarine Spitfire flew with RAF 66 Squadron and RAF 118 Squadron. On 3rd May 1941, it belly landed in a forced landing near Ibsley, Hampshire. Authorities listed the plane as damaged beyond repair.

The plane was one of many fighters funded by people of Northern Ireland who contributed to the Belfast Telegraph Spitfire Fund.
