The City of Derry Spitfire

The City of Derry Spitfire P7839 was the second Belfast Telegraph Spitfire Fund presentation plane funded by people in the area during the Second World War.

The City of Derry Spitfire had the serial number P7839. The Mark IIa Supermarine flew with RAF 74 Squadron, RAF 308 Squadron (ZF-C), RAF 315 Squadron (PK-T), and RAF 610 Squadron. On 3rd October 1941, the place attempted to pull out of a dive before crashing 1m north by north west of Bewholme, East Yorkshire.

The plane was one of many fighters funded by people of Northern Ireland who contributed to the Belfast Telegraph Spitfire Fund.
