The Larne Spitfire

The Larne Spitfire P7841 caught fire at RAF Tangmere, West Sussex in 1941. People of the Co. Antrim town donated to the Belfast Telegraph Spitfire Fund.

The Larne Spitfire had the serial number P7841. The Mark IIa Supermarine Spitfire flew with RAF 65 Squadron and RAF 616 Squadron. On 5th March 1941, the plane caught fire in a dispersal pen at RAF Tangmere, West Sussex. Authorities listed the Larne Spitfire as destroyed by fire.

The plane was one of many fighters funded by people of Northern Ireland who contributed to the Belfast Telegraph Spitfire Fund.
