On V.J. Day or Victory over Japan Day, 15th August 1945, the town of Ballycastle, Co. Antrim was a colourful spectacle. Flags of the Allied nations flew from almost every house in the district and residents built a large bonfire by the quay.
On 16th August 1945, the celebrations continued. Moyarget and Carvacloughan Orange Bands paraded through the town. The week of celebration and commemoration drew to a close with simultaneous thanksgiving services at Ramoan Parish Church and Ballycastle Presbyterian Church on Sunday 19th August 1945.
