The book draws on the archives of the Belfast Telegraph, a now daily newspaper produced in the capital of Northern Ireland. Using headlines, articles, photographs, and even advertisements recount much of Ulster’s history from the 1800s to the 1970s. Split into chapters dealing with employment, travel, entertainment, sport, etc., there are many mentions of the Second World War. The 6 years of the conflict impacted on many different aspects of people’s lives and this was reflected in the press. Of particular note here, are the rare photographs produced at the time that more often than not have not made it into museum collections.
