The Royal Navy was the largest in the world at the outbreak of the Second World War. Their ships were invaluable in providing protection to Great Britain.

HMS Javelin came under torpedo attack off the coast of Portmouth, Hampshire. Among those killed on 29th November 1940 were a pair of friends from Belfast.

HMS Maplin

The Admiralty requisitioned the cargo vessel Erin in September 1940 refitting it as a catapult ship for use during World War Two by the Royal Navy.
