Trooper Aaron Smyth (7018785) served in 49th (West Riding) Division, Reconnaissance Corps, Royal Armoured Corps during World War Two. He was the son of Aaron Smyth and Sarah Smyth of 44 Derwent Street, Belfast, Co. Down. His father was a retired night watchman who served in the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in The Great War.
Smyth landed in Normandy, France with 49th (West Riding) Division on 13th June 1944, one week after D-Day. He was the husband of Margaret Smyth of Newtownards, Co. Down. The Co. Down Trooper died on 3rd October 1944 aged 23 years old.
Aaron Smyth’s grave is in Section A3, Grave 586 of Dundonald Cemetery, Dundonald, Co. Down. His headstone bears the inscription:
