Able Seaman Charles Dennis Judge of Lancashire, England drowned in an accident on Belfast Lough near Bangor, Co. Down on 20th January 1942.

Able Seaman Charles Dennis Judge (C/JX 254367) served in the Royal Navy during World War Two. Born on 5th November 1913, he was the son of Michael Judge and Isobel Judge or Morecambe, Lancashire. He was the husband of Catherine Judge of 2 Holmhurst, Great Urswick, Lancashire.

He died on 20th January 1942 aged 28 years old. At the time, he served at the shore base HMS President III. This was a shore base established on 28th August 1939 in Bristol to train men for Defensively Equipped Merchant Ships. At his time of death, he was on HMS Karanja when he drowned in Belfast Lough, Bangor, Co. Down.

Charles Dennis Judge’s grave is in Glenalina Extension, Section D, Grave 15 of Belfast City Cemetery, Belfast, Co. Antrim. His headstone bears the inscription:

God has taken one we loved away from pain and sorrow to a nobler rest above. Wife, Brian, David, and Family.
