Sergeant Charles Henry Barton of Bloomfield, Belfast, Co. Down served in Asia with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve during the Second World War.

Sergeant Charles Henry Barton (1111461) served in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve during World War Two. He was the son of James Barton and Edith Marie Barton of Bloomfield, Belfast, Co. Down.

He died on 7th November 1942 aged 23 years old. He was the Pilot of Hawker Hurricane BN692 with RAF 79 Squadron. The plane spun into the ground while carrying out aerobatic manoeuvres at Kanchrapara Airfield, West Bengal, India. Barton took off at 1553hrs for formation flying practice with Flying Officer Bowes. The Hurricane spun out at 1640hrs, crashing to the ground and killing the Pilot.

Charles Henry Barton has no known grave. His name is on Column 414 of the Singapore Memorial.
