Second Officer George McClelland Leckey of Holywood, Co. Down served in the Merchant Navy on board SS Kenbane Head when it came under attack in waters off the coast of Greenland.

Second Officer George McClelland Leckey served in the Merchant Navy during World War Two. Born in 1913, he was the son of Henry "Harry" Leckey and Mary Ann Leckey (née McLelland) originally of Loughgall, Co. Armagh, and the husband of Susan Margaret Leckey of Holywood, Co. Down.

He died on 5th November 1940 aged 27 years old. He was onboard SS Kenbane Head went it came under attack from the Kriegsmarine surface raider Admiral Scheer. A total of 24 men died when the Belfast built vessel went down off the coast of Greenland.

George McClelland Leckey has no known grave. His name is on Panel 60 of the Tower Hill Memorial, London, England.
