Hugh Carson

Second Engineer Hugh Carson of Belfast, Co. Antrim died on 5th November 1940 when the Belfast built SS Kenbane Head came under attack in the North Atlantic.

Second Engineer Hugh Carson of Belfast, Co. Antrim served in the Merchant Navy on board SS Kenbane Head when it came under attack in waters off the coast of Greenland.

Second Engineer Hugh Carson served in the Merchant Navy during World War Two. Born in 1894, he was the son of William Carson and Isabella Carson (née McCullough) of Belfast, Co. Antrim, and the husband of Margaret Carson (née McAlpine) of 2 Lisdarragh Park, Belfast, Co. Antrim. The couple married on 18th May 1920 in Belfast, Co. Antrim.

He died on 5th November 1940 aged 46 years old. He was onboard SS Kenbane Head went it came under attack from the Kriegsmarine surface raider Admiral Scheer. A total of 24 men died when the Belfast built vessel went down off the coast of Greenland.

Hugh Carson has no known grave. His name is on Panel 60 of the Tower Hill Memorial, London, England.
