Sergeant James Gilmore from Newington Street, Belfast, Co. Antrim died in an air crash over Co. Donegal while on a training flight with the Royal Air Force. He served in the RAF from January 1941.

Sergeant James Gilmore (1036700) served in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve during World War Two. He was the only son of John Gilmore and Jane Gilmore of 21 Newington Street, Belfast, Co. Antrim.

James died on 28th February 1943 aged 23 years old. He was a Wireless Operator/Air Gunner on board Vickers Wellington HX737 when it crashed in Falcarragh, Co. Donegal. The crew was from RAF No. 7 Operational Training Unit based at RAF Limavady, Co. Londonderry. James had served in the Royal Air Force since January 1941.

James Gilmore’s grave is in Section AF, Grave 65 of Carnmoney Cemetery, Newtownabbey, Co. Antrim. His funeral took place on 3rd March 1943.
