Lieutenant Commander James Henderson Foster served in the Royal Naval Reserve during World War Two. Born on 11th November 1904, he was the husband of Eva Gertrude Foster of Belfast, Co. Antrim.

James died on 6th January 1945 aged 40 years old. During the Second World War, he served on HMS Maplin (F 107) built in the Workman-Clark and Co. Ltd. shipyard in Belfast, Co. Antrim.

James Henderson Foster’s grave is in Glenalina Extension, Section O, Grave 81 of Belfast City Cemetery, Belfast, Co. Antrim. His headstone bears the inscription:
