Fireman and Trimmer James Hodges Emerson of Belfast, Co. Antrim died on 5th November 1940 when the Belfast built SS Kenbane Head went down in the Atlantic.

Fireman and Trimmer James Hodges Emerson of Belfast, Co. Antrim served in the Merchant Navy on board SS Kenbane Head when it came under attack in waters off the coast of Greenland.

Fireman and Trimmer James Hodges Emerson served in the Merchant Navy during World War Two. Born in 1919, he was the son of William John Emerson and Elizabeth Emerson of 130 Cosgrave Street, Belfast, Co. Antrim. He also lived at 49 Copperfield Street, Belfast, Co. Antrim.

He died on 5th November 1940 aged 20 years old. He was onboard SS Kenbane Head went it came under attack from the Kriegsmarine surface raider Admiral Scheer. A total of 24 men died when the Belfast built vessel went down off the coast of Greenland.

James Hodges Emerson has no known grave. His name is on Panel 60 of the Tower Hill Memorial, London, England.
