Leading Stoker John Allen Gibb (NAP 953507) served in the Merchant Navy during World War Two. Born on 2nd May 1901 in Finnieston, Glasgow, Scotland, he was the husband of Mary Gibb (née Burns) of Possilpark, Glasgow, Scotland.
He died at Victoria Wharf, Belfast, Co. Antrim on 8th February 1941 aged 39 years old. At the time, the Leading Stoker served on board HMS Cilicia. Merchant Navy documents list his cause of death as acute lobar pneumonia.
John Allen Gibb’s grave is in Glenalina Extension, Section D, Grave 121 of Belfast City Cemetery, Belfast, Co. Antrim. His headstone bears the inscription:
In loving memory of my dear husband John who passed away suddenly while on active service.
