Sergeant John Donaldson Grieve (1456662) served in the Royal Artillery during World War Two. He was the only son of William Grieve and Mary Grieve of 13 Ballantine Place, Perth, Scotland.
John was the husband of Emma Grieve of Jordanstown, Belfast, Co. Antrim. Emma’s family owned the Lilliput Laundry in Dunmurry, Co. Antrim.
Before the outbreak of the Second World War, John attended Perth Academy School in Perth, Scotland. He worked as an industrial chemist for a firm called Pullars. He then enlisted in the British army in 1938 and received a posting to 8th (Belfast) Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Royal Artillery.
John Donaldson Grieve died on 4th February 1945 aged 35 years old. His place of death is listed as a “Private Nursing Home” in Belfast, Co. Antrim. His grave is in Section E4, Grave 296 of Dundonald Cemetery, Dundonald, Co. Down.
