Gunner John Edmonds (1469241) served in 5th Battery, 9th Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Royal Artillery during World War Two. He was the son of David Edmonds and Maria Edmonds (née Magilton) of Newtownards, Co. Down and the husband of Florence Edmonds of 62 Mill Street, Newtownards, Co. Down.
John Edmonds died at the home he shared with his wife Florence on April 1947 aged 35 years old. His grave is in Section 24, Grave 158 of Movilla Cemetery, Newtownards, Co. Down. The funeral service took place on 22nd April 1947. His headstone bears the inscription:
Gone to be with Christ which is far better.
