Fireman and Trimmer Joseph Leo McGuigan of Belfast, Co. Antrim died on 5th November 1940 when a raider sank the Belfast built SS Kenbane Head off Greenland.

Fireman and Trimmer Joseph Leo McGuigan of Belfast, Co. Antrim served in the Merchant Navy on board SS Kenbane Head when it came under attack in waters off the coast of Greenland.

Fireman and Trimmer Joseph Leo McGuigan served in the Merchant Navy during World War Two. He was the son of Francis McGuigan and Sarah McGuigan of Belfast, Co. Antrim, and the husband of Elizabeth McGuigan of 30 Joanmount Street, Belfast, Co. Antrim.

He died on 5th November 1940 aged 47 years old. He was onboard SS Kenbane Head went it came under attack from the Kriegsmarine surface raider Admiral Scheer. A total of 24 men died when the Belfast built vessel went down off the coast of Greenland.

Joseph Leo McGuigan has no known grave. His name is on Panel 60 of the Tower Hill Memorial, London, England.
