Gunner Leonard Edgar (1475599) served in 8th (Belfast) Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment of the Royal Artillery during World War Two. He was the son of Leonard Edgar and Sarah Ann Edgar, and husband of Norah Edgar of Belfast, Co. Antrim.
He enlisted in the British Army and joined 23rd Battery, 8th (Belfast) Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment. The unit served in France and Belgium in 1939-1940.
Leonard Edgar died on 23rd May 1940 in occupied France. His grave is in Section 9, Row AA, Grave 5 of Wimereux Cemetery, Pas-de-Calais, France. His headstone bears the inscription:
We will remember in the sunset glory. The life he gave will never grow old.
His name is also on the family plot in Section L, Grave 242 of Belfast City Cemetery, Belfast, Co. Antrim.
