Able Seaman Leslie Ernest Winston Rendle (D/JX 249360) served in the Royal Navy during World War Two. Born on 5th April 1914, he was the son of Sidney Rendle and Ellen Rendle (née Tidball) of Bideford, Devon.
In 1936, he lived with his wife Winifred Mary K Williams at 25 Prospect Terrace, Newton Abbot, Devon. Leslie worked as an Automatic Train Control Electrician for the Great Western Railway. His last known address was 5 Alexandra Terrace, Dawlish, Devon.
Able Seaman Rendle served at HMS President III in Bristol, England. There, members of the Royal Navy trained as crews of Defensively Equipped Merchant Ships.
He died on 18th December 1941 aged 27 years old. Cause of death was a head injury resulting from an accidental explosion of a rocket. The incident took place at a DEMS Firing Range, Belfast, Co. Antrim.
