Leading Aircraftman Robert Stanley Hegan (816245) served in the Auxiliary Air Force during World War Two. He was the youngest son of Robert Hegan and Sarah Jane Hegan of 137 Ainsworth Avenue, Belfast, Co. Antrim, and husband of Ethel Doris Hegan of 59 Donaghadee Road, Bangor, Co. Down. The couple had young twins aged 1 year and 10 months.

Robert died on 6th January 1943 aged 24 years old. Having enlisted at the outbreak of the Second World War, he flew in RAF 502 (Ulster) Squadron.

Robert Stanley Hegan’s grave is in Section F5, Grave 175 of Dundonald Cemetery, Dundonald, Co. Down. His headstone bears the inscription:

They are without fault before the throne of God.
