Rifleman Robert Warden of Newtownards, Co. Down served with Royal Ulster Rifles and 2nd Battalion The London Irish Rifles during fighting in Italy in 1944.

Rifleman Robert Warden (7046535) served in 2nd Battalion The London Irish Rifles, Royal Ulster Rifles during World War Two. He was the youngest son of John Warden and the late Sarah Warden of 70 Greenwell Street, Newtownards, Co. Down.

In Newtownards, Robert had 5 elder siblings; David Warden, John Warden, Eleanor Warden, Minnie Warden, and Margaret Warden. Robert died on 12th November 1944 aged 22 years old. The cause of death was wounds sustained to his legs received in action during fighting in Italy.

Robert Warden’s grave is in Section V, Row D, Grave 5 of Arezzo War Cemetery, Italy. His headstone bears the inscription:
