Robert William Beck (7020200) served with 2nd Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles during World War Two. He served at D-Day as part of 3rd Infantry Division on Sword Beach.
Robert was born in 30 Bangor Street, Belfast, Co. Antrim in 1920. His military career began in 1st Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles, 6th Airborne Division. He transferred to 2nd Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles. There, he would become part of a close-knit group. Comprised of three Belfast men, the “BBC” was Burrows, Beck, and Crangles. The three men landed on Sword Beach on D-Day, 6th June 1944.
Robert William, known to family and friends as Bob had two other relatives in the military; Johnny Beck (7018164) and William Beck (7018156).
