Born in Lurgan, Co. Armagh, Third Radio Officer Roger Anthony Lyon Reid lived at 443 Crumlin Road, Belfast, Co. Antrim while he served in the Merchant Navy during the Second World War.

Third Radio Officer Roger Anthony Lyon Reid served in the Merchant Navy during World War Two. He was the son of James Reid and Mary Bridget Reid of Lurgan, Co. Armagh. Records show Roger living at 443 Crumlin Road, Belfast, Co. Antrim.

Roger died on 13th November 1940 aged 24 years old. He served on SS Cape St. Andrew when U-137 sank the cargo ship west-north-west of Aran Island. The Kriegsmarine submarine attacked at 2108hrs as Master Albert Roy Bebb lagged behind Convoy OB-240 in SS Cape St. Andrew. HMS Salvonia towed the stricken vessel escorted by HMS Hurricane landing 52 survivors at Greenock, Scotland. On SS Cape St. Andrew, the Master, a Royal Marine gunner and 13 crew members died as a result of the attack.

Roger Anthony Lyon Reid has no known grave. His name is on Panel 23 of the Tower Hill Memorial, London. His brother Felix Joseph Gerrard Reid also died during the Second World War.
