Flight Sergeant Trevor Arthur Kemp (422412) served in the Royal New Zealand Air Force during World War Two. At his time of death, he flew with RAF No. 104 Operational Training Unit.
He was the son of Arthur Kemp and Kate Kemp of Howick, Auckland, New Zealand. He was the husband of Joyce Margaret Kemp of Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand. The New Zealander airman was one of many men in the ANZAC forces to die while serving in Northern Ireland.
Flight Sergeant Kemp died on 24th November 1943 aged 32 years old. He was the pilot of Vickers Wellington Z1313 when it flew into Divis Mountain, Belfast, Co. Antrim at 0130hrs.
Navigator Sergeant Ebenezer F Lurkins (1387934) sustained injuries in the crash and died the following day. A third crew member, Wireless Operator/Air Gunner Sergeant AA Richardson survived in spite of serious injuries.
Trevor Arthur Kemp’s grave is in Grave 32 Killead Presbyterian Church, Killead, Co. Antrim. His name is on the Howick and Pakuranga War Memorial, Stockdale Hill, Howick, Auckland, New Zealand.
His parents erected a memorial on the gates of Howick Bowling and Croquet Club, Uxbridge Road, Cockle Bay, Auckland, New Zealand. The club moved to new premises at Nixon Park in 1959 and the memorial now stands at the foot of a flagpole at the new clubrooms. The plaque reads:
