Fusilier William Frederick Bloomer (6979121) served in 1st Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers during World War Two. He was the son of William Bloomer and Henrietta Bloomer (née Smyth) of Belfast, Co. Antrim.
The 1911 Irish census lists Bloomer as a newborn living with an older brother James Bloomer and their parents. Their home is with Mary Jane Smyth, their 67 year old grandmother at 19 Dorchester Street, Belfast, Co. Antrim.
William’s father died on 15th August 1915 at the Dardanelles while serving with the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in World War One. His brother James died as a young boy in 1916. In 1938, William enlisted in the Royal Irish Fusiliers and spent around 12 months training in England. He then left for India.
Fusilier Bloomer died in Myanmar/Burma on 18th February 1943 aged 32 years old. His mother received notification of his death at her home at 228 Matilda Street, Belfast, Co. Antrim in March 1943.
William Frederick Bloomer has no known grave. His name is on Face 11 of the Rangoon Memorial, Taukkyan War Cemetery, Burma. A family memorial stands in Glenalina Extension, Section H, Grave 166 of Belfast City Cemetery, Belfast, Co. Antrim.
