Captain William Scott McCrum (45432) served in 127th (Highland) Field Regiment, Royal Artillery during World War Two. He was the son of Robert McCrum and Sarah Jemima McCrum of Belfast, Co. Antrim.
In 1911, William Scott McCrum was 13 years old and living with his family at 4 Rosetta Parade, Belfast, Co. Antrim. Father Robert and mother Sarah are 45 years old. Robert Ivan McCrum is a year older than William. The family have a 7 year old daughter Doris and attend the Uniterian Church. A 37 year old general servant named Mary McCabe also lives at the residence.
By 1928, McCrum has moved to Dundee. On 15th June 1928, he is a salesman, a 2nd class passenger, on board the steamer Rajputana bound for Yokohama. William’s occupation is salesman and his destination is Tangier although he intends to return to his address at 37 Albert Square, Dundee, Scotland.
In 1931 he married Ruth Liddiard Pirie in Dundee, Scotland. The couple had one child together.
Before the outbreak of war, William served in 76th (Highland) Regiment where he gained promotion to 2nd Lieutenant on 11th June 1930. McCrum received a promotion to Captain from Lieutenant on 28th May 1937. He died on 3rd December 1940 aged 42 years old. His place of death is Belfast although his place of residence is 366 Blackness Road, Dundee, Scotland. His will is sealed in Llandudno, Wales on 12th March 1941.
