On 30th April 2020, residents of Tullyard Way in the Clonduff Estate, Belfast unveiled a new mural. The area is well-known for its historical artwork on gable walls. This one marks the achievements of Captain Tom Moore and his fundraising for the National Health Service.
Captain Moore who served in the Second World War began raising funds for the N.H.S. in April 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic worsened. He set out to raise £1,000 by walking 100 laps of his garden in Marston Moretaine, Bedfordshire, England before his 100th birthday. He eclipsed this target within 24 hours, eventually raising tens of millions by the time he turned 100 years old on 31st April 2020.
When our N.H.S. needed us most, one man walked forward with a tale to tell that captured our hearts and we became engrossed. He has brought a people together with drive and determination in our hour of need and most challenging time of separation. A war veteran from one front line encouraging each and every one of us to support those fighting this time. As he approaches his 100th year and so much in the world gone wrong, we tip our cap to you Captain Tom, a man who has made us all belong.

The unveiling of the mural took place during the residents’ Thursday evening ‘Clap For Carers’.
