On 18th June 2020, British Army Ammunition Technical Officers made safe an explosive device in Haywood Avenue, Belfast. The device was in the loft of a house on the street just off the Ormeau Road in South Belfast. It was then placed in a vehicle nearby before the Police Service of Northern Ireland received a call.
The Police attended the scene at around 1900hrs as residents from several homes in the area evacuated during the time of the alert. A spokesperson for the Police Service of Northern Ireland later reported the device to be a deactivated Second World War grenade. The British Army removed the device from the area and residents returned home.
