On 2nd February 1942, Lieutenant J.R. Bainbridge photographed British and American troops and cooks as 1/5th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment handed over to 63rd Signal Battalion (V Corps) at Sunnylands Camp, Carrickfergus, Co. Antrim.

U.S. Rangers commemorated in Carrickfergus

At the junction of Sunnylands Avenue and North Road, Carrickfergus, Co. Antrim, the entrance to the old camp is marked by a permanent memorial to the historic founding of 1st U.S. Ranger Battalion at the camp in June 1942.
