During the Second World War, there was a potato processing factory in Charlemont, Co. Armagh close to the River Blackwater. The Government-run factory also briefly became a billet for American troops in the Spring of 1944.

194th Quartermaster Gas Supply Company, attached to XV Corps arrived at Charlemont, Co. Armagh on 8th April 1944. Following their departure from the Charlemont Factory, the Company moved on to Randalstown, Co. Antrim.

Negotiations for the sale of the site began following the Second World War in November 1946. In May 1948, the sale was complete, the first machinery installed, and Armagh Rural Council had widened 160 yards of road to provide access. On 1st August 1948, the factory re-opened under the ownership of J. & T. Sinclair as an abattoir and processing plant for the pork industry.
