Beginning in July 1944, thousands of evacuees from Gibraltar arrived in Northern Ireland. British wartime operations meant they had to leave their homes on The Rock. After a time in London, many shipped across the Irish Sea to escape German bombing.
Crossgar Camp (Camp 3) stood on the Kilmore Road, Crossgar, Co. Down. The camp consisted of a range of buildings and Nissen huts. Cedar Integrated Primary School now stands on the site.
Following the Second World War, most of the Gibraltar evacuees returned to their homeland.
