Munitions workers and the Royal Artillery

On 11th January 1942, a group of munitions workers or "gun layers" visited a Royal Artillery training site in Downpatrick, Co. Down. A Commanding Officer permitted the civilian workers to form "gun crews" and operate the weapons. The War Office Photographer noted: "They loved it and what is more, all hit the target".
