During the Second World War, aircrew and ground crew from the nearby Castle Archdale and Killadeas bases would gather in Irvinestown, Co. Fermanagh. A favourite watering hole of theirs was a place they referred to as "Ma Shutt's".

The pub on Mill Street in Irvinestown, Co. Fermanagh offered the airmen a chance to escape their bases, enjoy good food, and a few drinks. On 27th May 1941, a party took place in the bar to celebrate the sinking of the Bismarck. The local Royal Ulster Constabulary paid a visit, observed some after-hours drinking, but pressed no charges. They noted:

A good night was had by all.

Over the years, the pub changed hands and was known as The Railway Bar or the Railway Engine Bar at times. In recent times, the bar has closed and the site is currently up for sale. If you have any further information on the history of The Railway Bar or Ma Shutt’s, please contact us.
