The Belfast Jewish Community established a Jewish Hostel in Cliftonpark Avenue, Belfast, Co. Antrim in the late 1930s as refugees began to escape persecution in Europe.

The hostel existed for the older refugees who made their way to Northern Ireland. When Kindertransport Children arrived, they began to live with Jewish families. Even some new Jewish families took in children.

During the summer of 1939, the first batch of children left the Jewish Hostel at Cliftonpark bound for Ballyrolly House, Millisle, Co. Down.
