Aircraftman 2nd Class Charles Henry Young was born and raised in Cardiff. The family moved to Larne, Co. Antrim after the losing Charles and his mother in the space of a couple of years.

Aircraftman 2nd Class Charles Henry Young (949726) served in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve during the Second World War. Born on 2nd August 1919, he was the son of William Henry Young and Thirza Jane Young (née Jones) of 161 Ninian Park Road, Cardiff, Glamorgan, Wales. The remaining family moved to "Twinewood", Glenarm Road, Larne, Co. Antrim during or after the war.

Charles Henry Young died on 6th October 1940 aged 21 years old. Registration of his death took place in Carmarthenshire, Wales. His grave is in Section H, Grave 1289 of Cardiff Western Cemetery, Cardiff, Glamorgan, Wales. His headstone bears the inscription:

His mother, Thirza Jane Young died 26th July 1942 age 61. In memory’s garden we meet every day.
