Flying Officer Douglas Williams served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War. He was the son of Henry Ernest Williams and Christina Campbell Williams of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
Williams died on 12th June 1943 aged 22 years old. He was on board the Queen’s University Air Squadron De Havilland Tiger Moth X5045. The plane took off from Sydenham Airfield, Belfast before stalling and coming down around 1545hrs on 12th June 1943 on the Stormont Estate, Belfast. Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve Lieutenant George Leslie Werts from Middlesex, England also died as a result of the crash.
Douglas Williams’ grave is in Glenalina Extension, Section AS, Grave 21 of Belfast City Cemetery, Belfast. His headstone bears the inscription:
