Flight Sergeant Edward Glyndwr Williams (540293) served in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. He was the son of Edward J Williams and Florence Williams, and husband of Josephine Rose Williams of Trowbridge, Wiltshire.
In June 1939, Williams escaped unscathed from an aviation crash at RAF Netheravon, Wiltshire. Sergeant Harrison George Ing died in the incident. Pilot Officer Donald Alexander John Foster also survived.
Flight Sergeant Williams died on 21st June 1941 aged 21 years old. At the time, he flew with RAF 88 Squadron, a Bomber Squadron part of Coastal Command based at Sydenham Airfield, Belfast. Official records list his cause of death as “posted missing believed drowned”.
Edward Glyndwr Williams’ grave is in Glenalina Extension, Section AS, Grave 109 of Belfast City Cemetery, Belfast. His headstone bears the inscription:
