Civilian George Nelson Officer died on 11th May 1941 aged 36 years old. Born on 27th September 1905, he was the son of Edward Officer and Emily Mary Officer (née Brown) of 22 College Park Avenue, Belfast.
His death occurred at Church Army Hospital, Waterloo Road, London. George had been a member of The Church Army since 1934 rising through the ranks to serve as a Captain. He served in Sheffield, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and during wartime, he oversaw the running of a hostel for troops in London. George’s fianceé Marjorie Elsie Warwood died as a result of an earlier raid on London on 16th April 1941.
George Nelson Officer and his fiancée Marjorie Elsie Warwood’s graves are in St. Paul’s Church, Cookhill, Worcestershire. His name is on the Civilian War Dead Roll of Honour at St. George’s Chapel, Westminster Abbey, London.
