Aircraftman 2nd Class Henry Thompson (1007157) served in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve during World War Two. Born on 23rd October 1920, he was the son of the late Henry Thompson and Margaret (Maggie) Thompson (nee Stewart) of Aigburth Park, Strandtown, Belfast, Co. Down.

Henry’s father was a veteran of World War One and had married Maggie on 9th July 1920 at St. Matthews Church of Ireland, Shankill, Belfast, Co. Antrim. Henry had a younger sister Amelia born in 1922, brothers John and Charles born in 1925 and 1928, and Norman and Brian born in 1934 and 1937.

Aircraftman 2nd Class Henry Thompson died on 4th March 1945 aged 24 years old. His grave is in Section 33, Row E, Grave 4 of Ambon War Cemetery, Indonesia. His headstone bears the inscription:

loved and longed for always by mother, brothers, sisters, and niece.
