Born in Ireland, Private James George Byron served in The Great War before emigrating to Ontario, Canada where he reenlisted at the outbreak of the Second World War.

Private James George Byron (A/11283) served in Perth Regiment, Royal Canadian Infantry Corps during the Second World War. He was the son of Henry Edward Byron and Mary Ann Byron of Belfast.

He served in The Great War between 1914-1918 before emigrating to Ontario, Canada where he met his wife Henrietta Byron of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Before the outbreak of the Second World War, he worked in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. He enlisted in September 1939 and left for the United Kingdom in September 1941.

James George Byron died on 21st August 1942 aged 44 years old. His wife in Canada had received a letter from James saying he would be invalided home on the next boat a week before his death. His grave is in Glenalina Extension, Section C, Grave 54 of Belfast City Cemetery, Belfast.
