Constable James Meaklim served in the Royal Ulster Constabulary during World War Two. He was born in Co. Monaghan in 1903.
He was the husband of Margret Meaklim and father to Ruby Meaklim and Raymond Meaklim. In 1932, he lived at 4 Woodland Terrace, off the Shore Road close to his RUC station on the York Road.
On the night of 15th April 1941, he was at York Road Police Station when the Luftwaffe attacked Belfast in what would become known as “The Easter Raid”.

He died aged 38 years old on 16th April 1941 in Belfast, Co. Antrim when a parachute mine exploded outside the RUC station.
James Meaklim’s grave is inSection K, Knockbreda Cemetery, Newtownbreda, Co. Antrim. His headstone lists his cause of death as “killed as the result of enemy action 16th April 1941”.
