Pilot Officer Leslie Arthur Hebenton served in RAF 422 Squadron at the time of his death on 20th February 1944. His Sunderland Flying Boat came down near Trory, Co. Fermanagh.

Pilot Officer Leslie Arthur Hebenton (J/88403) served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War. Born on 13th December 1924, he was the son of Arthur Lowe Hebenton and Margaret Robert Hebenton (née McEwan). The Hebenton family were originally from Ayrshire, Scotland but lived in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Hebenton died on 20th February 1944 aged 20 years old when Short Sunderland W6028 came down in Trory, Co. Fermanagh. On 20th February 1944, the crew from RAF 422 Squadron took off on a training flight to simulate a battle with a Bristol Beaufighter of RAF 235 Squadron.

Short Sunderland W6028 took off from RAF St. Angelo, Co. Fermanagh on 20th February 1944 in a training exercise with a Beaufighter from RAF 235 Squadron.

Leslie Arthur Hebenton’s grave is in Plot 2, Grave 48 of Irvinestown Church of Ireland, Irvinestown, Co. Fermanagh. His headstone bears the inscription:
