Flight Sergeant Maurice Neill (1132280) served in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve during the Second World War. He was the son of the late Maurice Sutcliffe Neill and Florence "Florrie" Neill (née Campbell) of 39 Rushfield Avenue, Belfast.
Before the outbreak of the Second World War, Neill attended Mercantile College, Belfast. He later worked in the hairdressing department of Goorwich’s Department Store on Castle Place, Belfast. He enlisted in the Royal Air Force in May 1941, training and receiving his wings in Canada.
Neill died on 30th June 1943 aged 26 years old. He was the Pilot of Mosquito HK135 with R.A.F. 256 Squadron. The plane took off from R.A.F. Ford, Sussex, England, and came down in the English Channel around 35 miles south of Selsey Bill, West Sussex, England. Sergeant William Jabez Preece also died as a result of the incident.
Maurice Neill has no known grave. His name is on Panel 138 of the Runnymede Memorial, Surrey, England.
