Sergeant Peter Charles Hunter Phillips was the Air Gunner on Boulton Paul Defiant N3402 that took off from Newtownards Airfield, Co. Down on 9th July 1942.

Sergeant Peter Charles Hunter Phillips (1312411) served in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve during the Second World War. He was the son of Hunter Phillips and Elsie Phillips of Fowcy, Cornwall.

Peter died on 9th July 1942 aged 21 years old. He was the Air Gunner on Boulton Paul Defiant N3402 with RAF 256 Squadron that took off from Newtownards Airfield, Co. Down. No. 1480 (Anti-Aircraft Co-Operation) Flight had moved there in December 1941. The Defiant piloted by Henryk Komenda came down at Ballycarry, Co. Antrim killing both the Polish Airman and the English air gunner.

Peter Charles Hunter Phillips’ grave is in Section 28, Grave 82 of Movilla Cemetery, Newtownards, Co. Down.
