Sub-Lieutenant Rex Samuel Wilson of Napier, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand died as a result of an aviation accident in Northern Ireland while flying in the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm.

Sub-Lieutenant Rex Samuel Wilson served in the Royal New Zealand Naval Volunteer Reserve during the Second World War. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. M. Wilson of Napier, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand.

He attended Napier Boys’ High School in his hometown and worked as a drafting cadet in the Public Works Department before the outbreak of the Second World War.

He died on 2nd August 1945 aged 20 years old while serving with the Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm 891 Squadron at H.M.S. Gannet, Eglinton, Co. Londonderry. His plane came down near Magilligan, Co. Londonderry on a strafing exercise.

Rex Samuel Wilson’s grave is in Grave 19 of St. Canice’s Church of Ireland, Faughanvale, Co. Londonderry.
